Week 6 Reflection: US Imperialism & World War I
![]() |
| This pretty much looks like Imperialism. I see 2 different perceptions. One is the US getting tied up in business that had nothing to do with them, also can be looked at the US wanting to grow! |
Imperialism is the a policy aimed at extending the political, economic, and cultural control of the United States government over areas beyond its boundaries. Imperialism would cause the creation of colonies.. But it that good or bad... hmm.
The Good:
- One of the major benefits I feel the government look at above all, was imperialism's economic benefits. Imperialism would be good for global modernization, some of the US creations were brought to other countries through imperialism.
- Another benefit is imperialism created a global defense support. There were 650 military bases in 38 countries, so US Imperialism was able to protect people around the world during conflict.
- Imperialism helped colonized countries progress. Globalization helped the advancement of infrastructure and machinery.
- Nations were able to broaden their cultural horizons. through imperialism the US brought its influence to other nation's cultural ideas, language, food, and religion.
- The main focus of imperialism was innovation. Development of new products and services in the United States and in other countries has lead to economic growth.
The Bad:
- Imperialism created political disagreements. No person, country, or organization wanted to be controlled by another entity.
- Imperialism lead to even more discrimination. Exchanging cultural ideas is listed as a benefit but it's also a con because some people were forced into this culture and that's something that should not have to be forced.
- Some colonies were exploited. If colonies didn't accept the beliefs of the colonizers they could be punished.
- Imperialism is expensive! With there being many military bases around the world, the US is kicking out more money to defend more than one nation.
My own opinion:
I understand the point of imperialism but some of the cons outweigh the good. The government was honestly just greedy! They more than likely used more money trying to colonize other countries when we could have just focused on the US. You know.. just mind our own business *rolls eyes*.I really feel like life is survival of the fittest, US wanted to help others instead of letting them stand on their own, but of course they really wanted the money.
I don't know if it's just me but.... if its CONFLICT i'm staying out of it! Austria-Hungary declared war on
Serbia because they killed the heir to the throne ; Archduke
Ferdinand.
Due to alliances, Europe was thrown in the war. (smh) Somehow out of the millions of people that were dying the the only thing the US could think of is how this would help the economy. ( i get it, i really do.. but umm it's WAR) The US didn't want to be left out, so they hoped in the War. The US was able to contribute more power with the triple entente to the war which helped alot. Once the US joined, Germany was strong enough to keep fighting so they ended the fight and Germany signed the armistice.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your blog! Your approach was different you highlighted the pros and cons. I personally feel like one country should not try to overpower another. It is best to stay in your own lane because when you become greedy you create problems. Overall I enjoyed it and your perspective.
I really like how you gave the different perceptive on imperialism. You showed the benefits and the cons of taking over people lands. I also agree, the US did it because they are greedy and just wanted to expand. The US wanted to colonize mostly a part of every country. Your picture shows the plan that the US wanted to do around the world.
ReplyDeleteI like how you gave both sides of the story and I think that the US is really greedy, along with being selfish and very much arrogant. Your image shows the greed and how the US thinks it basically has the world in their hands and such.
ReplyDeleteHi Johnese. I really liked this post. I haven't seen one styled like this before. I do agree with your opinion. The US is very greedy, especially when it comes to land. Yes they wanted to grow but at the costs of so many human lives. It's terrible that America is so selfish but at this point, it's expected in this country.
ReplyDeleteWow, this post was something different. I loved it. I like how you broke down the pro and cons of the events. Very Creative! But me and you are on the same page! They should have minded their business in the first place. I also avoid conflict, especially if it has nothing to do with me. That war did not have anything to do with U.S. but you know how they are. Will do ANYTHING to gain.
