Combat footage from the Vietnam War It somewhat surprises me how some things in history go unnoticed, I don't recall learning much about this war in previous history class, so it was interesting to learn some different facts about history. The Vietnam war was one of the longest wars in American history. For the Vietnam war to be the most unpopular war there were a lot of deaths, this war resulted in 60,000 American deaths and an estimate of 2 million Vietnamese deaths, I honestly don't see how it's the most unpopular, we have to stop pushing things under the rugs this event was major if you ask me. Sit-in's became a popular tactic for civil rights movements. Ever heard the saying "I'm tired of being tired", that's exactly what's going on in this week's blog. African Americans were tired of the slow pace changes that they believed should have already happened, so instead of waiting for a change they made changes! They  used sit-ins, freedom rides, and protest marches to fight segregation, poverty, and unemployment. Although it wasn't the easiest many tactic were used and some outcomes were positive, others were not.  The Non-Violent Movement: This movement started in 1955 with the Montgomery Bus Boycott, they protesters used mass boycotts of city buses for 381 days to damage bus companies profit, the supreme court finally ruled segregation of public transportation was illegal. In the 1950s the use of automobiles became highly influenced, especially with over 400,000 miles of highway built. After WW2, there was an amazing growth in the economy. As we know with change comes more change. As the economy grew separation was still very visible. Residential construction and spending on consumer goods became very popular. During this era become a homeowner was a dream. Home ownership wasn't as easy for blacks as it was for whites. The 1950s brought the rise of Suburbans, neighborhoods dedicated to whites. While suburbans were developing urban cities were changing. 7 million whites left the city to move into suburbs, while 3 million blacks moved to the cities. The neighborhoods for blacks were often called ghetto, and thought to be high crime areas, poverty, and needed welfare. World War 2  Sep 1, 1939 – Sep 2, 1945 Seems like during this time period countries were driven off of power! Each of the countries were wanting to expand their powers by taking over lands and territories. During this time Hitler was the leader of Germany wanted the Nazi's to take over as much land as they could. Japan wanted to be the leader of east Asia. Eventually with all of the countries trying to invade each other and conquer more land a war would start. The US was not involved in the war at first and was going to stay neutral, but Japan bombed the US at the Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. With each war there comes culture shifts. After the attack on Pearl Harbor the US moved anyone of Japanese descent to concentration camps, over half were children. After things got settled they were allowed to return home sadly to find their homes had been robbed or vandalized. In 1990 they were each given $20,000 in reparations.
