Week 7 Reflection: Woman's Suffrage Movement
| Quote from Susan B. Anthony; a leader in the Woman Suffrage Movement. |
I hate this time point in history, it is very disgusting to read. Being a woman this blog really touches a different emotion. On the other hand this week's topic shows a different type of strength from woman, that I love and admire.
The woman suffrage movement began in 1848, when a women’s rights convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York. Woman were looking for equality to vote, for divorce, access to higher education, the professions, and other occupations, as well as birth control and abortion. It took activists and reformers nearly 100 years to win the right to vote. A lot of the things we take for granted and a lot of the things still need improvement. There were also laws that allowed women to be legally beaten by their husbands and were required to submit to their husbands' sexual demands. That basically sounds like legalized rape and is probably why rape cases were high.
I love a lady with a little sassy in her, it's sometimes necessary! Well... the bravery of these woman is so remarkable and inspiring. Alice Paul who was big during this time period stated "there will never be a new world order, until woman are apart of it. There were so many changes going on around the time, but none was beneficial to woman. I know I said this before but i will say it again. Woman are so undervalued. Woman literally go through so much. It makes me grateful for where we are today although we still need improvement. This topic also makes me reflect on the final essay question, success is not something that comes easily no matter how hard you're working there will be obstacles.

This section in history makes me upset as well, like honestly women went through slavery in two forms; by race and gender; it's ridiculous! Like how are you going to tell me what I can and cannot do with my own body, mind, and money. Women were not only undervalued then, but still are today. I see it with my regular job I have now. Men get promoted quicker and are afforded more luxuries than the women even though the woman could do the job better. I hope for that to change one day, but we shall see.
ReplyDeleteI love how simple and detailed your post is. I also like how you explains that women goes undervalued. I can agree to that is true back than and probably now as well. In that you gave information that women really wasn't treat as a person in some way but a slave or doll to look at and play with it than throw it away later.
